Akurat is a Polish band formed in November 1994 in Bielsko-Biała. 'Akurat' has two meanings in Polish: 'exactly' or 'yeah, right'. Music of the band can be credited as a fusion between punk rock, reggae, ska and pop. Last year Akurat gave almost 100 concerts becoming one of the most popular college groups. Their main asset is unique unpretentious style escaping classification. Some link them to reggae legends like Daab and Gedeon Jerubal and even to UB40. To others they are the heirs of the independent stars like Mr.Zoob, Kazik and Kult. AKURAT created their own recognizable style. Their music has loads of positive energy and reflects the joy of playing. It’s a mixture of rock with a solid dose of ska music and intriguing lyrics perfectly describing reality.
AKURAT was set up in November 1994 in Bielsko-Biała – the city in southern Poland called “the second Cracow” - by students with different professional aspirations - graphic designers, a filmmaker, an actor and two ”educated” musicians. The members of the band did not change and they are - Tomasz Kłaptocz (vocals, trumpet), Piotr Wróbel and Wojciech Żółty (guitars), Przemysław Zwias (saxophone, flute), Ireneusz Wojnar (bass) and Łukasz Gocal (drums). Their career begun with a few amateur contests, which brought them prizes (in Bielsko and Andrychów). Later they made their way to Przystanek Woodstock festival in Żary, where they performed three times (in 1998, 1999 and 2001) for thousands of people. They also gave concerts in Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2001 AKURAT recorded their first album ”Pomarańcza” (Orange) – with hits: ”Hahaczyk”, ”Espania”, ”Droga długa jest” (Long is the road) and ”Lubię mówić z Tobą” (I like talking with you). Their next album ”Prowincja” (Province) was issued with their own resources and despite of little promotion turned out to be a success – singles ”Wiej-ska” and ”Do prostego człowieka” (To the simple man) – were on charts in independent radio stations.
Charismatic vocalist, great sound of brass, excellent guitarists and efficient rhythmic section are the main assets of the band, which will publish their new album “Fantasmagorie” (Fantasmagories) in late spring ‘2006. The album, with no doubt, will bring them right to the top of the Polish music scene. Read more on Last.fm.
